Toronto Sun reports that transportation companies are recognizing an authentic-self approach to crew uniforms. “Eurostar’s employees are sporting new gender-neutral uniforms that include skirts for men, funky neckerchiefs and chunky Dr. Marten boots.” The pieces are “interchangeable and made to fit all genders, body types, and personal styles, empowering staff to express their individuality.”
A few years prior, Canada’s WestJet adopted “pantsuits, skirts and dresses […] meant to be gender neutral, so workers can select the uniform that is most authentic and comfortable to them.” It is meant to embrace “a genderless approach that encourages staff to wear whatever pieces resonate most with individual workers.”
This level of mass visibility is fantastic, and I wonder if it owes anything to the heat wave years ago when male buss drivers and schoolboys donned skirts because shorts were prohibited. Maybe it owes to the internet awareness of skirts designed for men. In any event, the authentic-self message provides for “just-because” jutsifications (no different than choosing a shirt color because today feels like blue and yesterday felt like white). The authentic-self mantra is reminiscent of the 2019 post, Skirts, Pants, and Deuteronomy 22:5.
Whole this is *not* one of the uniforms, it is something I found on the internet years ago and I ask, what could be wrong with such uniforms? It looks super comfortable!
